Arts Promotional Video
The UBC Arts Dean’s office commissioned this short brand video to be shown at in-person domestic and international recruitment events. Aimed at prospective undergraduates, it needed to capture the energy and breadth of a faculty with over 14,000 students and 25+ programs, spanning the social sciences, humanities, and creative and performing arts. We went with a youthful look, quick pace, and authentic first-person voice, addressing common student concerns about belonging and community when transitioning from high school to university.
The project came together in just under five months on a $10,000 budget, so setting realistic stakeholder expectations from the start was essential for our team. Campus partners helped keep costs down: students and faculty volunteered as actors and extras, and all filming locations were provided free. The video showcases unique Arts spaces including the Bill Reid rotunda at the Museum of Anthropology, UBC’s rare books and special collections, a geofluvial climate research lab, and the award-winning Arts Students Centre.
Recruiters told us that prospective students and parents at the events responded positively to the video, often remarking on how “cool” the Faculty looked. The video is still used at recruitment events and screened in person at the Chan Centre during new student orientation every September.
